ASESINADO UNO MAS

La estrella del reggae sudafricana Lucky Dube fue asesinado anoche en Johannesburgo durante un intento de robo de su vehículo, informaron hoy fuentes policiales.El ataque sucedió ayer alrededor de las 20:00 hora local (18:00 GMT) en el barrio de Rosettenville, en el sur de la capital económica de Sudáfrica, una ciudad con uno de los índices de crimen más altos del mundo.El cantante, de 43 años y el músico de reggae sudafricano más conocido a nivel internacional, acababa de dejar a su hijo en casa de unos parientes cuando un número indeterminado de atacantes abrieron la puerta de su Chrysler y le dispararon.Herido, intentó huir, pero su vehículo chocó contra otro coche y Dube murió en la misma escena del crimen ante su hijo, que había salido del coche sólo unos momentos antes y que se encuentra ahora en estado de shock.Lucky Dube, nacido en la provincia norteña de Mpumalanga, empezó a introducirse en mundo del reggae a mediados de los años 80, y durante los más de 20 años de carrera musical logró consolidarse como uno de los grandes nombres del reggae a nivel internacional.El último de sus 21 álbumes publicados por el artista, todos ellos con canciones dedicadas a las problemáticas sociales y comprometidas políticamente, se puso a la venta en 2006 bajo el nombre precisamente de 'Respeto'.En él, Dube apelaba al respeto desde una ciudad donde los extendidos ataques, secuestros, robos y asesinatos han convertido el tema del crimen en uno de los principales temas de debate permanente.De acuerdo con los datos del último informe anual de la Policía, dado a conocer en septiembre pasado, el pasado año hubo 19.202 asesinatos en todo el país y 13.599 robos a mano armada de vehículos, en muchos de los casos con consecuencias fatales.Sudáfrica tiene uno de los mayores índices de inseguridad en todo el mundo, según los expertos, aunque no hay estadísticas fiables comparativas, de acuerdo con el informe de la Policía.El asesinato del artista sudafricano ha generado una ola de quejas en las emisoras locales sobre la falta de control del crimen en el país y la muerte de Lucky Dube ha sido condenada con una intensidad que no se recordaba en muchos meses.
